There follows a list of vegetables supplied by ‘ Gardeners Kitchen’ along with information relating to the plant. Most varieties offered are of a Commercial origin not normally available to the Amateur grower, these varieties will give the best possible chance of producing crops that you would find on the ‘Supermarket’ shelves.
Our aim is to introduce modern varieties to the Amateur gardener that have been bred for Flavour, Yield, Disease resistance and Uniformity, replacing the outdated varieties normally on offer. The most popular Amateur tomato varieties are still available.
ASPARAGUS - F1 GIJNLIM
Plant March / May. High yielding with thick well closed spears. Grow on the flat no need to ridge this modern variety. Light cut the second year then full thereafter up to 20 years with good care.
BABY LEAF Plant March to October.20 varieties of baby leaf with different flavours and colours, you chose which ones you like to make up your baby leaf salad. The Valdor lettuce is only available for winter production, all the rest can be grown at any time. once the plant goes to flower it will need to be replaced. The strongest flavours are the mustards (hot) and Rocket (nutty). Also in 'Patio Range'.

BEAN RUNNER – ‘HESTIA’
Plant 30th March to 30th June. A dwarf runner bean, with red and white bi-colour flowers, heavy yields. Also see in 'Patio Range'. Best time to plant is the 3rd week in May.
BEETROOT -‘WODAN’ F1 - Plant 7th March to 22nd Sept. Early maturing, smooth, round, good bolting tolerance. Excellent skin quality and internal colour. Must not separate plants but plant as a bunch, plant every 3 weeks for continuity. Can be used for baby vegetables. Harvest June to September.
CABBAGE CHINESE -‘SPRING STEP’ F1
Plant 21st April to 5th August. Best time to plant is the 3rd week in May. Good bolting tolerance, solid heavy heads, bright green. Plant every 3 weeks for continuity. . Needs protection from frost with Fleece or polythene, harvest June to October.
CABBAGE RED -‘AUTORO’ F1
Plant 15th March to 22nd Sept. Round to Oval, dense medium to large heads with good internal colour. Can be used as baby vegetables. Harvest June to November.
CABBAGE ROUND -‘STONEHEAD’ F1
Plant 14th April to 22nd Sept Good quality, uniform with very solid heads. Use for successional plantings. Can be used as baby vegetables. Harvest June to November.
CABBAGE ROUND -‘GOLDEN CROSS’ F1
Plant 15th March to 5th April. Extra early maturing. Resistance to bolting, can be grown in greenhouse. Can be grown for baby vegetables. Harvest May to June.
CABBAGE SAVOY -‘MILA’ F1
Plant 15th Match to 3rd August. Early maturing. Dark green, good standing ability and resistance to bursting. Suitable for successional plantings. Harvest November to February.
CABBAGE SPRING – ‘OFFENHAM COMPACTA’
Plant 23rd August to 22nd September. High quality semi-hearted Cabbage. Smooth compact base, good bolting tolerance. Bred for autumn greens and spring hearts. Harvest mostly spring the following year.
CABBAGE POINTED – ‘DUNCAN’ F1
Plant 14th April to 22nd September. For all year round production. A quality pointed cabbage, can yield heads up to 500g. When mature. Can be cut early for quality greens, good shelf life and is a market leader. Plant every 3 weeks for continuity. Harvest June to November.
CABBAGE – ‘HISPI’ F1
Plant 15th March to 5th April. Earliest pointed cabbage, good quality, uniform crop. Harvest May to June.
CABBAGE WHITE – ‘MARATHON’ F1
Plant early 15th March to 30th June. Now club root resistant. Well proven for long term storage and standing in the garden. Tolerant to ‘Pepper Spot’. Harvest November and store.
CALABRESE – ‘MARATHON’ F1
Yes it has the same name as the white cabbage. Plant 15th March to 28th July. Well-shaped deep dome heads. Highly tolerant to Bacterial soft rots. Good for freezing. Plant every 3 weeks for continuity. Harvest June to November
CAULIFLOWER – ‘NAUTILUS’ F1
Plant 15th March to 27th July. Now club root resistant Extremely versatile, exceptional quality for summer harvest. Good for freezing. Plant every 3 weeks for continuity. Can be used for baby vegetables. Harvest June to November.
CAULIFLOWER – ‘JEROME’ F1 – Plant 23rd August to 22nd September specially bred for over winter production.
CAULIFLOWER – ‘PURPLE GRAFFITI’ – Plant 15th March to 27th July. Stunning deep violet/purple with sweet flavour. Plant every 3 weeks for continuity.
CAULIFLOWER – ‘ROMANESCO, FI NAVONA’ – Plant 15th March to 27th July. Green turreted heads, widely used in good restaurants.
CELERIAC - 'BALDEN'
Plant 22nd March to 14th July. Virtually round shaped root, very good bolting resistance and excellent inner quality. Harvest around Sept / Nov.
CELERY – ‘CELEBRITY’
Plant . 22nd March to 21st July. Best time to plant indoors is April, Planting outdoors is May. The most popular early maturing white Celery. Thick-based type can be used for baby vegetables. Harvest June to November.
CHRISTMAS POTATOES
Plant in 23rd August to 22nd September. Plant one or 2 plants in a potato bag or container top up with compost and leave in your container until Christmas when you will have new potatoes.
COURGETTE – ‘ AMBASSADOR’ F1
Plant 15th March to 30th June. Best time to plant outdoors is the 3rd wekk in May. Protect from frost. outstanding variety, early maturing and very productive. Attractive dark green colour, good for freezing.
COURGETTE – ‘TAXI’ F1 YELLOW -Plant 15th March to 30th of June. Best time to plant outdoors is the 3rd week in May. A very high yielding variety, easy to pick yellow fruits of high quality. Harvest when fruits are young for best flavour. Leave them to grow for marrows when they are ideal for stuffing.
FENNEL FLORENCE – ‘F1 RUDY’ – Plant April / July, very uniform quick growing variety, with rounded white bulbs.
GLOBE ARTICHOKE – ‘GREEN GLOBE Improved’ –Plant Mid-March to end of May. High yielding with well formed Globes. Harvest the following year.
KOHL RABI - QUICK STAR F1
Plant 22nd March to end of July. Medium green colour with flat round bulbs . Generally cooked but the nutty sweet flavour is excellent chopped, grated or sliced raw in salads. Harvest May to September.
LEEKS – ‘VERINA’ F1 –Plant 15th March to 17th August. Long Stemmed ‘Autumn Giant’ type, dark green top, less susceptible to leaf spot and rust. Plant as a bunch with up to 3 plants per hole. Can be used as baby vegetables. Harvest August to February.
LETTUCE ICEBERG – ‘SALADIN’
Plant March to end of August. ‘Original American’ Iceberg variety, solid heads, strong tolerance to tip burn.
LETTUCE BUTTERHEAD – ‘MUSETTE’
Plant March to August. Large framed, well filled heads, will stand unfavourable weather. Virus and root Aphid tolerant.
LETTUCE -‘LITTLE GEM’
A small Cos head, dark green, quick to mature.
LETTUCE CONTINENTAL MIX -A mix of red, light and dark green lettuce. Plant ALL every 3 weeks for continuity. Harvest late May to November.

LIVING SALAD –All year round. Specially selected varieties of Continental lettuce, grown in a trough. Leaves are picked off from the base of the plant as needed. At least 10 leaves need to be left on the plant to continue growth. Will last 4 weeks and more. Can be grown on a windowsill or Greenhouse or outside from May to September. During periods of poor light some lettuce may lose their colour.

Plant 23rd August to 22nd Sept. Early yielding. Medium skins, heavy, uniform, round bulbs with a deep straw colour. Plant as a bunch 25cm apart. Harvest June.

PUMPKIN – ‘GHOST RIDER’
Plant 21st April to 9th June. Best time to plant ourdoors is the 3rd week in May. Produces 5 – 10 Kg fruits. Deep orange fine quality. Harvest in the Autumn. Protect from frost.
PURPLE SPROUTING – ‘CLARET’
Plant 25th May to 15th September Good quality and uniformity. Large vigorous plant, producing heavy spears. Cannot be supplied before end of May as it requires ‘Vernalisation (Needs cold to produce Florets). Harvest spring the following year.
PURPLE SPROUTING EARLY - 'SANTEE' Plant April to August.Very hardy variety which produces an abundance of dark purple spears. Will harvest the same year of planting.
WHITE SPROUTING – Plant 25 May to 15th September. Creamy white spears which are slightly milder in flavour than purple.
